Legal Requirement:
WSH (Ship building and Ship Repairing) Reg 2008:
6(8) – It shall be the duty of every person not to oversee or supervise any work (including any process) in a shipyard or on board a ship in the harbor unless he has received adequate safety and health training to ensure that the work he oversees or supervises can be carried out safely.
Course Objectives:
This module comprises of 6 performance statements (PS) as shown below. At the end of the course you will be able to:
1. Explain and interpret salient WSH legislations and other requirements relevant to the marine industry
2. Describe the WSH duties and responsibilities of the supervisor in marine industry
3. Conduct a briefing on shipyard general safety and explain the Vessel Safety Coordination Committee (VSCC) and Permit-to-Work (PTW) procedure to shipyard workers and contractors
4. Identify WSH hazards, evaluate and control risks in marine industry in accordance with risk management process
5. Carry out WSH inspections in accordance with organizational inspection procedure
6. Conduct incident investigation and prepare report in accordance with legal and other organizational requirement.
